The ultimate recyclers, especially of paper, are the art league's collage artists and students! Nary a scrap of magazine, newsprint, coffee filter or clothes price tags escapes their finger tips. See examples of artists' work in the LaGrange Art League Gallery, 122 Calendar Ave. The current collage class concludes June 4 and will resume in the fall. Starting mid-June a new class titled "Green" Recycled Materials Assemblage Sculpture is offered. Learn to reuse found items and materials and produce fun, creative and thought provoking artwork.  Our window displays are also examples or scavenging and recycling. Come see what it is this month that is being reused!

Kerri painted The Emerald City in honor of her daughter's love of the Wizard of Oz.  "I had so many ideas it was hard to choose just one."  Kerri hasn't painted anything in over a decade and says that painting this barrel was both fun and inspirational.  She has been greatly involved in managing the rainbarrel project and feels honored to also be included in the company of the other barrel artists.

Barrel 39:  "Rain Babies"
by the Cossitt School Student Service Council for the Environment
Sponsored by Vulcan Materials
Vote

The latest activity of the Cossitt School Student Service Council for the Environment (SSC4E) was painting a rain barrel that Vulcan Materials, their new business education partner, purchased for them.  This was the perfect project for the SSC4E as focusing on activities that will help the environment has been their primary mission. The rain barrel was painted with environmentally friendly low VOC paint. The members of the SSC4E put their handprint on the barrel to demonstrate their commitment to the environment by recycling as much as possible, including rainwater! The barrel was titled "Rain Babies" in the  hope that little raindrops will grow into big buckets of water for people to use in their gardens and yards.

You can see pictures of all the children involved in the gallery.  View the Vulcan series of photos.
